Preview: Westerly Bulldogs vs. Burrillville Broncos

The Westerly Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Burrillville Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Westerly will be looking to keep their eight-game home win streak (dating back to last season) alive.

Last Friday, Westerly faced South Kingstown in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Westerly took down South Kingstown 31-13.

Westerly's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Landon Husereau led the charge by throwing for 222 yards and three touchdowns on only 17 passes. Luke Nelson was another key contributor, picking up 128 receiving yards and two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Burrillville was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 12-6 to St. Raphael Academy.

The team lost despite holding St. Raphael Academy to a paltry 168 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Burrillville's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out three times before it was all said and done. Leading the way was Ethan Murphy and his two sacks.

Westerly's victory bumped their season record to 7-1 while Burrillville's defeat dropped theirs to 4-4.

Westerly and Burrillville were almost perfectly matched up in their previous meeting back in November of 2019, but Westerly suffered an agonizing 14-13 defeat. Will Westerly have more luck at home instead of on the road?
