Basketball Recap: Austin Snaps Six-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Austin lost against Lake Travis back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The contest between the Austin Maroons and the Lake Travis Cavaliers didn't end well, with the Austin Maroons falling 55-40. The Maroons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Austin's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jillian Shirk, who went 6 of 14 en route to 13 points and six steals. Shirk has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Miya Johnson, who posted 11 points.

Even though they lost, Austin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Austin's defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-10. As for Lake Travis, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-10 record this season.

Austin will venture away from home to challenge Del Valle at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Austin is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.8 points per game this season. As for Lake Travis, they will host Bowie at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
