Basketball Recap: Brackenridge Falls Despite Big Games from Felton Nance and Jude Mendez

Brackenridge lost against Lanier back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Brackenridge Eagles fell to the Lanier Voks 55-50.

Jude Mendez and Felton Nance certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Mendez went 8 for 17 on his way to 23 points and five boards, while Nance dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds. That's the most points Mendez has posted since back in December of 2024.

Even though they lost, Brackenridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Lanier found their leader in freshman Zach Martinez, who put up 17 points. The game was Martinez's third in a row with at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Elijah Garza, who had 13 points.

Brackenridge has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 8-26 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.4 points over those games. As for Lanier, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 15-14.

Brackenridge didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 69-36 loss against Jefferson on the 7th. As for Lanier, they have also already played their next game, a 61-46 win against Sam Houston on the 7th.
