Baseball Game Preview: Coalinga Horned Toads vs. Mendota Aztecs

The Coalinga Horned Toads will head out on the road to square off against the Mendota Aztecs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Coalinga will be strutting in after a victory while Mendota will be coming in after a defeat.

On Friday, Coalinga got the win against Avenal by a conclusive 16-4.

Jesus 'Chuy' Gonzalez looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Carson Ocejo, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Coalinga: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Derrek Wilder, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

Coalinga always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, Mendota unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 8-5 to Dos Palos.

Coalinga's record is now 6-12. As for Mendota, their loss dropped their record down to 12-11.
