Baseball Recap: Jamestown Comes Up Short

Jamestown had lost 11 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-10 to make it 12. They came up short against the Frewsburg Bears, falling 15-1. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Red & Green of the 4-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.

As for Frewsburg, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-3-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 12.3 runs.

For Frewsburg's part, Maddox Sheesley made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Sheesley has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Mason Eckman was a standout: he went 2-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He has become a key player for Frewsburg: the team is 8-0-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Blake Weaver was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Coming up, Jamestown will be playing in front of their home fans against Fredonia at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Frewsburg, they will take on Maple Grove at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
