Since his freshman season, Peyton Siva has helped the Franklin Quakers remain among Washington's elite high school basketball programs.

Now, he’ll see what he can do for the Louisville Cardinals. Siva verbally committed to Rick Pitino last week.

Siva, who set a record for assists at the state tournament, is rated No. 20 in the class of 2009, according to Rivals.com, and No. 4 among point guards.

The 6-foot guard averaged 19.5 points per game and dished out a record 32 assists at the Class 4A state tournament.

Siva said his final choices were Louisville, Arizona, Kansas and Washington.

Siva is the second Seattle-area player to commit to Louisville in the last four years. Rainier Beach’s Terrance Williams will be a senior next season.

"I've been praying on it," Siva told the Seattle Times. "Talking with family and friends, and I decided Louisville was the best fit for me."

Baseball: Snohomish Returns to Safeco

The Snohomish Panthers lost the state title game to Richland last year.

Now, they’re back for a second chance.

Snohomish returns to Safeco Field for the Class 4A state semifinals after beating Central Kitsap 9-2.

Aaron West struck out four and walked one in a complete game effort. Bubba Robbins provided the big bat, going 2-for-3 with a home run, triple, four RBI, four runs and two walks.

Earlier in the day, Washington State recruit Derek Jones hit two home runs as Snohomish beat Puyallup 9-3 in the first round.

Snohomish will play Olympia in the semifinals. Richland continues its bid to repeat and will play Kentlake in the other semifinal.

In the Class 3A semifinals, defending-champ Issaquah will face Kennewick, and Meadowdale will face Kelso.

Soccer: Kennedy Makes Another Semifinal Appearance

The Kennedy Lancers of Burien had to travel over the mountain to beat Sunnyside 2-1 and play in the Class 3A state semifinals for the second time in three years.

Kennedy used goals from underclassmen to advance. Freshman Dawit Kelete scored in the 54th minute, and sophomore Vincent McCluskey scored eight minutes later.

Kennedy faces Mercer Island in the semifinals at Lakewood.

Lakeside and Camas will meet in the other semi.

In the Class 4A semifinals, Eastlake will face Bellarmine Prep, and South Puget Sound League rivals Puyallup and Todd Beamer will play in the other.

In the Class 2A tourney, Cheney and Quincy will play in one semifinal, and Sehome and Cedarcrest will play in the other.

Softball: Stadium Surprises With District Title

The Stadium Tigers didn’t win the Narrows League title, but pulled off a mild shocker and won the West Central District title.

The Tigers knocked off Kentlake, the two-time defending district champs, in the semifinals, handing Washington-bound pitcher Felecia Harris (10-2) only her second loss, 5-1. Stadium beat Central Kitsap in the title game 4-1.

"This is a surprise," Stadium coach Lynn Batchelder told the Seattle Times. "I never take anything for granted. I just wanted to earn a berth to state for our three seniors who have carried the load."

The Class 4A and 3A tournaments are at SERA Fields in Tacoma on Friday and Saturday.

Track and Field: Lakes Shatters Relay Record

The Lakes 400 relay team broke the Class 3A WestCentral/Southwest district record on Saturday. It was another Lakes team that last broke the record eight years ago.

Dominick Davis, Koreye’ Dixon, Jermaine Kearse and Anthony Wright ran the race in 42.58 seconds, clipping the record of 42.63 that Akeem Anthony, Damien Coaxum, Lemar Matheson and Reggie Williams set in 2000.

Williams starred at Washington as a wide receiver and now plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Kearse, a star wide receiver/defensive back on the Lancer football team, has signed a letter of intent to play at Washington.

The Class 4A and 3A state meets are in Pasco. The Class 2A and 1A state meets are in Tacoma, and the Class 2B/1B meet is in Cheney.
