Softball Game Preview: Westside Warriors vs. Gosnell Pirates

The Westside Warriors will challenge the Gosnell Pirates at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Westside is coming into the game hot, having won their last six games.

Westside lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Stuttgart, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's matchup. The Warriors were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Ricebirds on Thursday. Considering the Warriors have won 15 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Mckyna Craig was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Vada Watkins, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Kimber Wynn, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Gosnell unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak last Tuesday. They fell 7-4 to Westside.

Westside pushed their record up to 19-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Gosnell, their loss dropped their record down to 12-6.

Westside beat Gosnell 7-4 in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Pirates have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
