League recap: Water Valley rises in state rank

3A Region 2 recap September 10, 2013

Water Valley moved up to 32 from 67 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A Region 2. The Blue Devils were able to make move up by besting Calhoun City 42-6.

North Panola lost to Hernando 75-26 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jatavious Farmer was a bright spot for the Cougars, as he threw for 156 yards and 2 touchdowns in the loss.

North Panola's dynamic duo of Farmer and Willie Hibbler proved to be unstoppable against the Tigers, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Ventravious Sanders helped North Panola's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 43 yards.

Derek King's team's dynamic duo of Farmer and Hibbler proved tough for Hernando to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.

Hibbler was the best receiver in the league this week as the Cougars lost to Anthony Jenkins' team. Hibbler racked up 2 receptions for 79 yards.

E J Bounds provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Water Valley bested the Wildcats. He completed 4 passes for 65 yards and also ran for 130 yards. Bounds' key target this week was T T Person, who caught 2 passes for 53 yards.

Farmer put up the best numbers in passing as North Panola lost to the Tigers.

Bounds was the best running back in the league this week. Teammate Brandon Bounds added to the ground attack by rushing for 50 yards.

The Cougars' Farmer and Hibbler have formed a dream team this season, leading 3A Region 2 in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback Farmer has thrown for 575 yards this season, while Hibbler has 6 catches for 172 yards. Bounds from the Blue Devils leads the league in rushing with 308 yards.

Water Valley made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 1,040 from 2,283. The advance stemmed from a 42-6 victory over Calhoun City last week.
