Basketball Recap: Reading Comes Up Short

Reading came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Madeira Mustangs/Amazons, falling 59-35. The Blue Devils have struggled against the Mustangs/Amazons recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

John Laux was nothing short of spectacular for Madeira: he went 8-for-12 to rack up 16 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Laux a new career-high in assists (three). Another player making a difference was Ben Reed, who shot 45% from the field en route to 11 points and five boards.

Reading's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Madeira, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.

Reading will head out on the road to square off against Finneytown at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Madeira, they have already played their next matchup, a 55-44 win against Purcell Marian on the 24th.
