Softball Recap: False River Takes a Loss

False River dropped down to 10-5-1 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 15-0 to the Maurepas Wolves. The Gators were red-hot at the plate heading into the contest (they scored no less than ten runs in the three games prior), but the Wolves' pitcher proved too tough.

As for Maurepas, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-8. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.

For Maurepas' part, Sidney Lauzervich made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Lauzervich has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Saydie Sterling was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kambree Delatte, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs.

Looking ahead, False River will take on University Lab at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Maurepas, they will venture away from home to square off against Central Private at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Redhawks' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Wolves' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
