High school football: Indiana senior approaches national record with 26 receptions for 396 yards and six touchdowns

Hayden Cler of Guerin Catholic jumps into the MaxPreps National High School Football Record Book top 10 for receptions in a game and breaks Indiana record.

Senior Hayden Cler of Guerin Catholic (Noblesville, Ind.) approached a high school football national record Friday night by piling up 26 receptions for 396 receiving yards and six touchdowns in a 69-62 loss to Brebeuf Jesuit Preparatory (Indianapolis, Ind.).

Cler's 26 receptions put him in a tie for sixth place in the MaxPreps National High School Football Record Book for catches in a single game. He also broke the state record of 22 catches previously held by Duncan Keller of Covington in 2021.

In four games this season, Cler has 64 receptions for 644 yards and eight touchdowns. He went over 1,000 receiving yards in his career Friday.

Cler found the end zone four times in the fourth quarter alone against Brebeuf Jesuit, including a 72-yarder.

Quarterback Malcolm Houze also had a career day for Guerin Catholic as he tossed eight touchdowns and ran for another. Houze threw for 638 yards in the game.

Brebeuf Jesuit was led by senior running back C.J. Harris, who had 402 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 29 carries. Harris went over 2,000 career rushing yards in the win and is averaging 12.4 yards per carry this season.
