Basketball Recap: South Comes Up Short

South lost against Mayfield back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The South Rebels fell 58-51 to the Mayfield Wildcats. The Rebels have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Angelo Newman had a dynamite game for Mayfield, going 11 of 18 en route to 27 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. The dominant performance gave Newman a new career-high in points. Shane Jones was another key player, putting up six points and six boards.

South's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Mayfield, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-8.

South will head out to challenge Kenston at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Kenston is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.2 points per game this season. As for Mayfield, they will host Chardon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mayfield is facing Chardon at the right time seeing as Chardon is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
