After a string of 14 wins, Menlo-Atherton's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of the Junipero Serra Padres by a score of 3-2. The Bears were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Padres apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Menlo-Atherton took Junipero Serra into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking eight-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 23-25, 25-16, 25-15, 22-25, 15-7.

Peter Chriss paced Menlo-Atherton's offense, picking up 21 kills. Chriss really made an impact as he also led the team in assists with 27. Finally, he was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high three blocks.

The defeat was their first at home , dropping their record down to 19-2. As for Junipero Serra, they now have a winning record of 10-9.

Menlo-Atherton has already played their next matchup, a 2-0 loss against Monterey Trail on the 29th. As for Junipero Serra, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 2-0 victory against Berkeley on the 29th.
