Warren Central hasn't had much luck against South Warren recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. Warren Central is headed into Thursday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 15th straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They came up short against Bowling Green, falling 11-0. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Meanwhile, South Warren has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 2.53 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 17-11 margin over Greenwood. Considering the Spartans have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Emme Goss looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off seven hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (two).
At the plate, Kinleigh Russell was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was McLaine Hudson, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base.
South Warren kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in four consecutive contests.
South Warren is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Warren Central, their loss dropped their record down to 0-10.
Warren Central might still be hurting after the 15-0 defeat they got from South Warren when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Dragons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
