Basketball Recap: York Country Day Beats Newport for Their 17th Straight Win

York Country Day put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Newport Buffaloes 84-39. York Country Day has seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw Newport, too.

Leading York Country Day to victory were Elijah Slaughter and Johnson Ilonga. Slaughter went 7 of 10 on his way to 19 points in addition to seven boards and five steals, while Ilonga went 8 for 13 en route to 18 points. The dominant performance gave Slaughter a new career-high in points. Sincere Burgos was another key player, putting up six points and seven steals.

York Country Day's win was their tenth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.1 points per game. As for Newport, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-18.

York Country Day has already played their next game, a 64-40 victory against Lancaster Country Day on the 3rd. As for Newport, they will head out on the road to take on Greenwood at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
