Basketball Recap: St. Anselm's Abbey Takes a Loss

After flying high against Field on Friday, St. Anselm's Abbey came back down to earth. The St. Anselm's Abbey Panthers were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 52-51 to the Georgetown Day Mighty Hoppers. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' District of Columbia basketball rankings (they are ranked 154th, while the Mighty Hoppers are ranked 26th).

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mario Camara Paslar, who posted 14 points. Another player making a difference was Rooke Payne, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine rebounds.

Khalin Patel was the offensive standout of the match as he went 6 for 14 on his way to 13 points and four steals. He is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Julian Lucas was another key player, putting up five points and six boards.

St. Anselm's Abbey moved to 12-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Georgetown Day, their victory bumped their record up to 4-10.

St. Anselm's Abbey has already played their next game, a 51-45 defeat against Smith Jewish Day School on the 27th. As for Georgetown Day, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 77-43 loss against Maret on the 28th.
