Softball Game Preview: Potlatch Loggers vs. Kendrick Tigers

The Potlatch Loggers will challenge the Kendrick Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Potlatch is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games.

Potlatch had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 16-run drubbing they dealt Clearwater Valley on Wednesday. The Loggers were the clear victors by a 17-1 margin over the Rams. Considering the Loggers have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Brieanna Winther looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hayley McNeal, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Reese Lusby, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Potlatch was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clearwater Valley only posted a batting average of .211.

Meanwhile, Kendrick came up short against Clearwater Valley on Friday and fell 11-8. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ashna Casto made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Potlatch pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Kendrick, they now have a losing record of 5-6.

Potlatch couldn't quite finish off Kendrick in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 and fell 11-9. Can the Loggers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
