Baseball Recap: California Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Victory

California entered their tilt with Dougherty Valley on Wednesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Wildcats. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Grizzlies also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Brayden Gijbels tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. California is 5-2 when Gijbels allows two or fewer earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise.

At the plate, California's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Johnny Edwards, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Those two stolen bases gave Edwards a new career-high. Angelo Sherman was another, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.

California's record now sits at 9-7. As for Dougherty Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-15.

California will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Wildcats: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
