Softball Recap: Layton's Win Ends Four-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Layton's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Corner Canyon Chargers a 17-0 shutout. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Lancers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

The team relied heavily on Serenity Overton, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Megan Child was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one RBI.

Layton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .542. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Layton's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-18. As for Corner Canyon, they dropped their record down to 3-20 with the loss, which was their 13th straight at home.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Layton will square off against Farmington at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Corner Canyon, they will challenge Kearns at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.5 runs per game on average), something the Chargers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
