League recap: League supremacy in the balance for Mt. Vernon, Althoff Catholic this week

South Seven league recap: 3/20/13

Althoff Catholic and Mt. Vernon are tied atop the standings of South Seven, leaving first place open for the taking.

The Rams outpaced the rest of the league this week, as their two total wins led the league. Mt. Vernon beat Civic Memorial 10-0 and Pinckneyville 15-2.

The Rams boasted the best pitching over the past week, holding opponents to the league's fewest hits and issuing the fewest walks.

There were four hitters that batted over .400 in the league this week. Leading the pack was Colten Meador, who hit .800 by going 4-for-5.

Mt. Vernon's Matthew Williams finished his week with six hits, the best slugger in the league. His seven hits for the year are first in the league, and he boasts a .636 batting average.



The Rams' Brock Fulkerson struck out eight the Panthers hitters en route to a 15-2 victory on March 13. Over his five innings pitched he allowed two runs on one hit.

Pat Bradford was an RBI machine on Tuesday, as he knocked in four runs during Mt. Vernon's 10-0 win over Salem. He went 2-for-3 and scored two runs.
