Basketball Recap: West Iredell Takes a Loss

West Iredell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell 72-61 to the Hickory Red Tornadoes. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 276th, while the Red Tornadoes are ranked 59th).

When it comes to explaining why West Iredell lost, don't look at Jordan Patterson. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 34 points and nine boards. That was a full 55.7% of West Iredell's points, marking the third time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. David Bunton was another key player, putting up eight points.

West Iredell's defeat dropped their record down to 9-6. As for Hickory, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 7-1.

West Iredell will venture away from home to face off against North Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in North Lincoln's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 13 contests. As for Hickory, they will take on Foard at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Hickory's favor as the squad sits on 19 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Foard has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road.
