Softball Game Preview: South Mecklenburg Sabres vs. Berry Cardinals

South Mecklenburg has gone a perfect 10-0 against Berry recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. South Mecklenburg will face off against Berry at 5:00 p.m. South Mecklenburg is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.

Last Thursday, South Mecklenburg got the win against Olympic by a conclusive 18-1. Considering the Sabres have won six games by more than seven runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Madison Norris made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (zero). She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Reese Kern, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Ellie Gerin also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

South Mecklenburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Berry lost 16-6 to Palisades on Thursday. The Cardinals haven't had much luck with the Pumas recently, as the team has come up short the last six times they've met.

Berry's loss dropped their record down to 5-9. As for South Mecklenburg, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Everything went South Mecklenburg's way against Berry in their previous matchup on March 6th, as South Mecklenburg made off with a 16-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for South Mecklenburg since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
