Softball Recap: Chugiak Mustangs vs. Dimond Lynx

Chugiak was the 12-10 winner over Dimond when they last played one another back in May of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Chugiak Mustangs took a 12-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dimond Lynx on Tuesday. Chugiak just can't catch a break and has now endured three defeats in a row.

Shelby Strange and Megan Traxinger did some serious damage despite the final result: Strange scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2, while Traxinger went 3-for-3 with a stolen base, two RBI, and a double. The team also got some help courtesy of Yanessa Rodriguez, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

Even though they lost, Chugiak didn't let batters stay on the plate for long and finished the game with five strikeouts. That's the most strikeouts they've managed all season.

On Dimond's side, Rachel Whetten was incredible, going 3-for-3 with a triple, two RBI, and a double. Another player making a difference was Chloe Severson, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Chugiak's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Dimond, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.

Chugiak will look to defend their home field on Friday against Homer at 10:00 a.m. Chugiak is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.2 runs per game this season. As for Dimond, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bartlett at 7:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
