Volleyball Recap: Avery Sasche and Sydney Borgen Secure Win for Howards Grove

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Manitowoc Lutheran, Howards Grove was happy to have turned things around on Saturday. They came out on top against the St. Mary Catholic Zephyrs by a score of 3-1. The Tigers have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Zephyrs, too.

Leading Howards Grove to victory were Sydney Borgen and Avery Sasche. Borgen had nine digs and two aces, while Sasche had 17 digs, five kills, and three aces. Those nine digs gave Borgen a new career-high.

They weren't the only good servers: Howards Grove was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in five consecutive matches.

Despite the defeat, St. Mary Catholic saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Emily Weiss had nine digs and two aces.

Howards Grove has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-12 record this season. As for St. Mary Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 22-7.

Howards Grove does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for St. Mary Catholic, they will take on Lourdes at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
