Football Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Morgan

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Morgan ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They managed a 30-24 victory over the Provo Bulldogs. The win almost wasn't to be: the Trojans were down 24-7 in the second quarter.

Morgan's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Owen Gilson led the charge by throwing for 266 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also punching in one score on the ground. 101 of Gilson's passing yards were hauled in by Eli Mortensen, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Despite the loss, Provo still got an impressive performance from Malik Filimoe'Atu, who rushed for 91 yards and two TDs.

The victory (which was Morgan's fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 27.5 points over those games. As for Provo, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Morgan will welcome Union at 7:00 p.m. on the 19th. The last three games the Cougars have played have been within three points, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Provo, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Salem Hills at 7:00 p.m. on the 19th. The match will give the Bulldogs their first taste of in-conference action this season.
