Softball Game Preview: Clyde Bulldogs vs. Grape Creek Eagles

Clyde is a perfect 8-0 against Grape Creek since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Clyde Bulldogs will host the Grape Creek Eagles at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Clyde has five straight victories, Grape Creek has 12 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Last Tuesday, Clyde got the win against Sweetwater by a conclusive 9-1. Considering the Bulldogs have won 12 matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaycee Bingham made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off nine hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brileigh Dailey, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Sutton McClain, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.

Clyde hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Grape Creek lost 16-1 to Merkel on Tuesday.

Clyde's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Grape Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Clyde took their victory against Grape Creek in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 18-0. Will Clyde repeat their success, or does Grape Creek have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
