Softball Recap: South Warren Wins High-Profile Contest Against Larue County

South Warren faced Larue County in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Spartans blew past the Hawks 12-0. Considering the Spartans have won 22 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Layla Ogden made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on McLaine Hudson, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run and five runs. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kinleigh Russell, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one double.

South Warren hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in ten consecutive games.

South Warren's victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 27-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.1 runs over those games. As for Larue County, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 24-6.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Warren will take on Eastern at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Larue County, they will challenge Bryan Station at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
