Recap: Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers vs. Lewis County Minutemen
After losing to the Lewis County Minutemen the last time they met, the Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Buckhannon-Upshur came out on top against Lewis County by a score of 55-46 on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back wins for Buckhannon-Upshur.
Leading Buckhannon-Upshur to victory were Malaki Williams and Carter Zuliani. Williams dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds, while Zuliani dropped a double-double on 21 points and 17 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Williams pulled down eight or more rebounds. Jerin Westfall was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven rebounds.
Buckhannon-Upshur pushed their record up to 12-5 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Lewis County, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 12-7.
Buckhannon-Upshur will head out on the road to challenge Elkins at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Buckhannon-Upshur is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Elkins in West Virginia (Buckhannon-Upshur is ranked 18th, while Elkins is ranked 61st). As for Lewis County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Philip Barbour at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Lewis County is facing Philip Barbour at the right time seeing as Philip Barbour is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
