Baseball Recap: Chenango Forks Takes a Loss

Chenango Forks had lost four straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 1-6 to make it five. They came up short against the Owego Free Academy River Hawks, falling 13-1. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the River Hawks this season, with their most recent defeat being a 12-1 loss on Wednesday.

As for Owego Free Academy, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-2-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.2 runs.

For Owego Free Academy's part, Connor Kotski made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Kotski has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

In other pitching news, Tyler Lewis looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Elijah Lewis, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Mason Grippen also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chenango Forks will take on Seton Catholic Central at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. As for Owego Free Academy, they will challenge Waverly at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
