Basketball Recap: Pierce City Triumphs

Pierce City won the last time they faced Jefferson Independent Day and things went their way on Thursday too. The Pierce City Eagles sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 52-50 win over the Jefferson Independent Day Cavaliers.

Several Cavaliers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kohl Thurman, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards. Jack Twiss was another key player, going 7 of 14 on his way to 17 points.

Pierce City is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Jefferson Independent Day, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-6.

Pierce City will head out to face off against Miller at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Miller knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Pierce City likes a good challenge. As for Jefferson Independent Day, they will take on Northeast Vernon County in a tournament on Saturday. Jefferson Independent Day is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.3 points per game this season.
