Baseball Game Preview: Springfield Longhorns vs. Wiley Panthers

The Springfield Longhorns are taking a road trip to face off against the Wiley Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Springfield will be strutting in after a win while Wiley will be coming in after a defeat.

Springfield barely beat Granada the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Longhorns were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Bobcats on Tuesday. That six run margin sets a new team best for the Longhorns this season.

The team relied heavily on Jorey Billings, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Carter Barnes also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Springfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .625. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Wiley fell victim to Eads and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 14-0 to the Eagles. The Panthers just can't catch a break and have now endured four losses in a row.

Springfield's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Wiley, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-9-1.

Springfield was able to grind out a solid win over Wiley in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 12-8. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Longhorns since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
