Baseball Game Preview: Springville Red Devils vs. Maple Mountain Golden Eagles

Springville is 2-8 against Maple Mountain since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Springville Red Devils will face off against the Maple Mountain Golden Eagles at 9:00 a.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Springville had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They walked away with a 9-6 win over Payson.

Hugh Redd made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Redd was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Eli Liddiard was a standout: he scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases. Kaden Tingey was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Springville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Payson only posted a batting average of .167.

Meanwhile, Maple Mountain had already won seven in a row dating back to last season (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Thursday. They came out on top against the Flyers by a score of 4-1.

Chase Johnston spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks.

On the hitting side, Cy Chrisman was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of AJ Thomas, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
