Volleyball Recap: Bluefield Takes a Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Bluefield can now relate to. They came up short against the James Monroe Mavericks on Tuesday, falling 3-0. If the Beavers were looking for revenge after losing 2-0 to the Mavericks when the teams met back in August of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

The match finished with set scores of 25-6, 25-3, 25-4.

Jaleigh Smith paced Bluefield's offense, picking up three kills. Smith got some help from Faye Jackson and her four assists. Finally, Smith was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high three blocks.

James Monroe was led to victory by Peighton Griffith and Skylar Clarkson. Griffith had nine assists and seven aces, while Clarkson had four digs and two aces. Clarkson is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 14 or more in each of the last four games she's played.

Bluefield has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-25-1 record this season. As for James Monroe, they have been performing well recently as they've won 20 of their last 25 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 33-10-3 record this season.

Bluefield didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against Midland Trail on the 3rd. As for James Monroe, they have also already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Liberty on the 30th.
