Goldsboro hasn't had much luck against Midway recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Cougars will take on the Raiders at 6:30 p.m. Goldsboro is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Goldsboro came out on top against Smithfield-Selma on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run third inning. The Cougars put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 16-1 victory. The Cougars haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Goldsboro got a massive performance out of Keaton Gagliano, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Westbrook, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Goldsboro always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .677. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March.
Meanwhile, while Midway put up some runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Gray's Creek. The Raiders walked away with a 5-0 victory over the Bears.
Not much got past Kyleigh Stonerock, who gave up just four hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Gray's Creek off the board. With that strong performance, Stonerock is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Macy Raynor, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and three RBI while going 3-for-4. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Mollie Bass was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one double and one RBI.
Goldsboro now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Midway, their record now sits at 18-1.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Goldsboro hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .339. However, it's not like Midway struggles in that department as they've averaged .346. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Goldsboro suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Midway in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
