Basketball Game Preview: Montgomery Bears vs. Brenham Cubs

Montgomery hasn't had much luck against Brenham recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Montgomery Bears and the Brenham Cubs will meet for a tough Bear Battle. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Montgomery took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They skirted past College Station 50-47. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bears have posted since January 19, 2024.

Meanwhile, Brenham had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 63-48 win over the Cougars. Given the Cubs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 241st, while the Cougars are ranked 490th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Brenham has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.1 points per game. As for Montgomery, their victory bumped their record up to 17-10.

Montgomery might still be hurting after the 61-38 defeat they got from Brenham in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. Can Montgomery avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
