Baseball Game Preview: West Johnston Wildcats vs. Ashley Screaming Eagle

The West Johnston Wildcats will venture away from home to take on the Ashley Screaming Eagle at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Johnston's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Ashley's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

West Johnston fell victim to First Colonial and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They took a 5-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Patriots. The match marked the first time this season in which the Wildcats were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Ashley faced Grace Christian in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Screaming Eagle narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Crusaders 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Screaming Eagle have posted since March 21st.

Cane Mehling spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on seven hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Drew Potter was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

West Johnston's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Ashley, their victory bumped their record up to 16-2.
