Softball Recap: Illiana Christian Comes Up Short

Illiana Christian dropped their record down to 8-6 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Lowell Red Devils, falling 6-0. The game marked the first time this year in which the Vikings were not able to get on the board.

As for Lowell, the victory (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 12-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games.

For Lowell's part, Olivia Fuentes made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. Fuentes has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Preslee Hill was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one home run and one double. She is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as she's now launched at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Ashlee Evans also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Looking ahead, Illiana Christian will face off against Whiting at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Lowell, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Lake Central at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (the Red Devils have won seven straight at home, while the Indians won nine straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
