Softball Recap: Greenbrier East Triumphs

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither Greenbrier East nor Woodrow Wilson made it on the board until the sixth inning. The Spartans walked away with a 4-1 victory over the Flying Eagles. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Flying Eagles recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Madilyn Wellman looked comfortable as she tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (three).

On the hitting side, Reagan Cline was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ally Martin, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Greenbrier East's victory bumped their record up to 15-9. As for Woodrow Wilson, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season.

Greenbrier East will be playing in front of their home fans against Independence at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 7.4 runs per game this season. As for Woodrow Wilson, they will head out to take on Logan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wildcats will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.
