Baseball Recap: Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast Catholic Falls to Archbishop Wood in First Game of Season

Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast Catholic unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 8-2 to the Archbishop Wood Vikings on Wednesday. If the Friars/Pandas were looking for revenge after losing 7-5 to the Vikings when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Johnny Ortegae was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast Catholic saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Friel, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

The win (which was Archbishop Wood's third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monsignor Bonner/Archbishop Prendergast Catholic will head out to take on Marple Newtown at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Archbishop Wood, they will challenge Harry S. Truman at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
