Basketball Recap: J'rell Williams' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pueblo South over Pueblo County

Pueblo South's game on Monday was all tied up 16-16 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 51-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pueblo County Hornets. The Colts were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hornets earlier this season, when they won 46-45.

Pueblo South's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was J'Rell Williams, who posted 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sergio Salazar, who earned four points and 12 rebounds.

Lowry Kirkland was his usual excellent self, going 7-for-13 en route to 26 points and seven assists for Pueblo County. Those 26 points gave Kirkland a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cohen Glenn, who scored seven points.

Pueblo South's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Pueblo County, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-12.

Pueblo South has already played their next game, a 61-59 victory against The Classical Academy on the 20th. As for Pueblo County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-45 defeat against Pueblo East on the 20th.
