Basketball Recap: Miracle Quarles' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Spring over Westfield

Spring easily dispatched Aldine last Friday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The Spring Lions fell just short of the Westfield Mustangs by a score of 47-45 on Tuesday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Lions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 58-34 back in December of 2024.

Spring lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Miracle Quarles, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave Quarles a new career-high in points. Jessica Reese was another key player, putting up eight points along with six boards and three steals.

Spring's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-16. As for Westfield, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 17-4.

Spring didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-34 victory against Benjamin Davis on the 17th. Westfield has also already played their next matchup, a 55-33 win against Dekaney on the 17th.
