Baseball Game Preview: Anthem Prep Eagles vs. Bagdad Sultans

Anthem Prep is 1-9 against Bagdad since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Sultans at 4:00 p.m. Anthem Prep will be strutting in after a victory while Bagdad will be coming in after a defeat.

Anthem Prep came out on top against Valley Lutheran on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive 13-run sixth inning. The Eagles put the hurt on the Flames with a sharp 20-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won ten games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Bagdad was a bit more limited in their matchup on Tuesday. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Williams.

Rowdy Hooper was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Anthem Prep's victory bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Bagdad, their loss dropped their record down to 11-9.

Anthem Prep got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in March against Bagdad by a conclusive 15-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
