Baseball Recap: Independence Drops Highest Score of Season Against Washington

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Independence). They put the hurt on the Washington Rams with a sharp 18-12 win on Tuesday. With that victory, the Patriots brought their scoring average up to 7 runs per game.

Rafael Sierra made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off only two hits. Sierra was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-6. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Miguel Ponce was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 5-for-6. He also hit two doubles, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jayden Castrillo, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4.

Independence always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .660. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Washington only posted an OBP of .429.

Independence's win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-5-1. As for Washington, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.

Independence will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Rams: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
