Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Scituate). They put the hurt on the North Providence Cougars with a sharp 21-1 victory on Wednesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Isabella Rotondo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Lily Maggiacomo was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Victoria Geisser was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Scituate always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .824. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
The victory was the third in a row for Scituate, bringing their record up to 5-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for North Providence, they are on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-13.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Scituate will square off against North Kingstown at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
