Softball Game Preview: Aragon Dons vs. King's Academy Knights

The Aragon Dons will square off against the King's Academy Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Aragon is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They lost 11-4 to Capuchino.

Aragon saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chloe Wan, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Olivia Mukherjee was another, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, King's Academy has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 3.42 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Wednesday. They came up short against Woodside, falling 13-5. The Knights' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Mia Bennette put in work while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Bennette was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one triple.

In other batting news, Ava Thompson was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Sophie Giles, who scored a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

King's Academy's loss dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Aragon, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-11.

Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Aragon hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350. However, it's not like King's Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .322. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Aragon couldn't quite get it done against King's Academy when the teams last played back in March of 2024 as they fell 9-4. Can the Dons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
