The Monessen Greyhounds will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Jeannette Jayhawks at 4:00 p.m.
Monessen had to start their season on the road back in March, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They wound up on the wrong side of a tough 15-1 walloping at the hands of West Greene.
Meanwhile, Jeannette entered their tilt with Leechburg with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Blue Devils by a score of 5-2 on Wednesday.
Grace Stein was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits (and not a single walk). Stein has been consistent recently: she hasn't pitched less than five innings every time she's pitched this season. Stein was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with an RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abby Shaw, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3. Shaw is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's stolen at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Gianna Casino was another key contributor, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Monessen suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to Jeannette when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Thankfully for Monessen, Autumn LaVella (who went 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
