Basketball Recap: Republic Takes a Loss

If Republic was riding high fresh off their 81-28 takedown of Columbia last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Republic Tigers lost 76-53 to the Inchelium Hornets on Friday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 68-46 two weeks ago.

Despite the loss, Republic saw an underclassman step up: freshman Landon Short dropped a double-double on 34 points and 13 rebounds. That was a full 64.2% of Republic's points, marking the 11th time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Cameron Thornquist, who scored four points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Republic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive games.

Republic's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for Inchelium, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-3.

Republic won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Northport at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Northport will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Republic surely won't give up without a fight. As for Inchelium, they will also get right back to it: they'll face off against Curlew at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Inchelium's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 14 contests.
