Basketball Recap: Wednesday's Victory Is Foothill's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

With a playoff win on the line, Foothill rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 67-42 margin over the Corning Cardinals. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 20 points or more this season.

Matt Poulsen was his usual excellent self, going 9-for-16 on his way to 24 points. He is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 45% in the last five games he's played. Turner Knowles was another key player, putting up three points in addition to eight assists and six boards.

Despite the loss, Corning still got an impressive performance from Alan De Lara, who posted eight points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jeff Mendros, who had 17 points.

Foothill is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.6 points over those games. With the defeat, Corning broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 15-13.

Coming up, Foothill will challenge Enterprise at 5:15 p.m. on Saturday. Foothill knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight games -- so hopefully Enterprise likes a good challenge. Corning does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
