Baseball Game Preview: Lexington Minutemen vs. Ridgeview Mustangs

The Lexington Minutemen are taking a road trip to face off against the Ridgeview Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Lexington will be strutting in after a win while Ridgeview will be coming in after a defeat.

Lexington barely beat Heyworth the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Minutemen put the hurt on the Hornets with a sharp 9-2 victory on Wednesday. Considering the Minutemen have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kayden Knight was a major factor no matter where he played. He pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off eight hits. He is becoming a predictor of Lexington's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 3-1 (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Knight was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Cooper Miller was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Braeden Barber, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Ridgeview's offense. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 10-0 to Fieldcrest, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Mustangs' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it four in a row.

The win made it two in a row for Lexington and bumps their season record up to 8-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Ridgeview, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8-1.
