Softball Recap: Kyley Varney Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat North Warren Central

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Salem, Fort Edward was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the North Warren Central Cougars a 12-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Flying Forts, who have now won three games by 12 runs or more so far this season.

Bradie Tyler made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Kyley Varney was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ollie Cutler, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Fort Edward always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Fort Edward's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for North Warren Central, they are on a four-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Coming up, Fort Edward will take on Hadley Luzerne at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for North Warren Central, they will face off against Northville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
